absence makes the heart grow fonder

She’s been gone a grand total of 6 days. And whilst we feel a tad bit guilty about enjoying the break so much, we can appease that somewhat by knowing she’s having a ball over there.

She flew out to Holland on the Thursday evening and was supposed to come back on the Friday night but wants to stay longer as there’s some music festival on. Thankfully the sister has a good mate who’s offered to get her flight home on the Sunday, else she’d be coming home on the Friday.
With school looming around the corner, we’ve to buy a brand new uniform, which will probably cost well over 100 yo yos and then the dreaded books. I’m hoping there is some system in place whereby we can rent them else you are talking well over 200 yo yos for new books.

I received an email from the sister in Holland during the week to inform me the kid was none too impressed with my insisting that R, the ex-boyf not stay over at all. We’re not taking her lesbianism seriously enough. Which reminds me, I must rid the house of razors and burn all her bras before she returns. Oh and stock up herbal tea. Wonder is that taking it seriously enough.

Its madness. So, the weekend was lovely. We headed to Kilkenny with the best mates, A and S. We made it to Kilkenny some time after 10, having left Dublin at 7. Yes, if you do the maths, you do indeed get it right. 3 hours to get to a place that’s 1 hr 15 minutes drive for us. We took a wrong turn and ended up in Wicklow. With traffic being so bad in town, there was no point in turning back so we made the descision to head to Gorey and then ‘nip’ accross country to the N10 and from there Kilkenny. Stress levels were a tad high as we drove through places that looked older then Ireland itself. People lived in these areas?

A drove from Athlone and got there before us. Lots of slagging commenced when we finally made it there. We don’t see much of A since she moved from Dublin so it was good to catch up on all her antics. And what antics! Tag rugby, salsa as well as gardening and moulding floors. S and A both recently purchased houses and try as they might to avoid talking about all things housey, there was still the odd snippet of conversation in relation to furnishings and dyson and professional weeds.
I vow not to mention anything about our house if we buy in the next few years. Same goes for having a child.

You can quote me on this.

Other then house holdy things, A’s next pet project is Reiki. Now I’m not sure where I sit with all this healing malarky but I was interested nonetheless. The stuff seems to work for her which is the main thing. I personally wouldn’t be a big fan. Some wine, some beer, good food and a guided tour of Kilkenny Castle where Mammy2 was none too impressed with the lack of mention of Elenoar Butler , who caused a scandal by running off with her maid and moving to Wales. Considering it had been 4 years since we were last away as a group, we parted ways that Sunday evening vowing not
too leave it as long the next time. With A being shipped off to Montreal next week with work for god only knows how long, it could just well be that long again.

We had taken the Monday off to spend some quality time together and ended up out in the in-laws painting cartoon characters on the wall. That and fending off questions from an inquisitive 3 year old. They have the strangest ideas in their heads.

Of course Mammy2 was like something from Playschool. Her voice goes up about 5 octaves when she’s talking to them, so much so that I think only the kids and the dogs can hear her.
