school is on the horizon

She’s been back a week now and its taking some adjusting to having her back in our lives. That said, I seem to have adjusted a wee bit better then Mammy2 god bless her. Then again it could be PMT. Either way, we survived the weekend which was a start. The kid was in foul humour. There could be many contributing factors. The return to school and the rules which follow. The love triangle she claims she’s stuck in the middle of. PMT. Or just the life of a teenager in general.

Uniform shopping was on Saturday morning and thankfully it wasn’t as tramatic as I had anticipated. She made all the usual comments but actually tried it on. Then we had to go shopping for shoes for her. She has a lovely dress for the anniversary party and wanted some fancy shoes for it as well. Considering the party is next Saturday, we were cutting a bit fine. Add a stressed out Mammy2 into the mix and some hot weather and it all makes for a fun day out. Mammy2’s mother and sister were calling over at 3 and at 2 we were still searching for those elusive shoes. Finally she settled on some sort of fancy shoe, don’t ask me for a description. I haven’t the foggiest how to describe them.
She was reasonably happy with them but in an argumentive mood. She started going on about not taking her lip ring outwhen she starts back at school. The school doesn’t allow piercings so she really wants to start off on the right footing.

She instigated this conversation whilst we were walking through town and I have told her often enough I will not discuss these things when we were out and about. She wouldn’t take no for an answer so I told her to shut it until we got home. Cue the pout to beat all pouts. I didn’t care, I wasn’t about to have this discussion on the street.

We got home and she headed to her room to sulk, most likely. The in-laws arrived a few minutes later so there was a slight thaw in the atmosphere with herself. We had a website meeting to go to that night, so she calmed down and apologised when she realised we weren’t going to. After dinner, she fell asleep on the couch, so I left her to it whilst I went for the world record in getting through a pile of ironing. I kid you not. Its amazing we weren’t all walking around starkers with the amount of clothes that had taken up residency in the front room.

Last night was sisters night. For sisters night , read she is sprawled on the couch, demanding tea, coke, whatever else is on offer and controls to telly as well. We usually rent out a DVD. I’m pretty sure the people in the DVD shop see us coming and push all of the crap to the front because any time we rent a DVD from this place, its pants. We are talking B movies. You can see the sets moving behind the ‘actors’.

The film wasn’t as bad as some of the stuff we rented. White Panic or something original like that. It was australian and they are generally good at churning out the odd gem. I say generally, because last night’s film ran like a longer version of Home and Away. Still, she was happy. That might have had something to do with her latest love interest ringing from Sweden that morning.

We were in bed last night when the phone rang at around 11.30 and she was all yap to D her best mate. To summarise the conversation:
“Yeah, so like, J rang from Sweden, yeah I know, like totally. So, she was like and I was like and” etc etc.
I evenutally
asked her to go into her room as I wasn’t really interested in hearing their whole conversation.
“Hanging up now” was the yell back and then she continued:
“Okay, I have to go now, cause my sister is yelling at me that she needs her sleep. Yeah, something about relaxing for the baby making , cause their donor is up on Thursday and they’re going to be trying again. Yuck, yeah, so anyway, I’m so going to be out of the flat for that..yeah, like freaky.”

Glad to see she’s totally comfortable with the situation!

  1. WOW… Is the above post linked to the back-to-school issue or to the baby-making?
