Lazy Sundays
The wedding was great, I did get teary eyed as seeing L walk up the aisle. We arrived early, which is amazing when one considers Mammy2’s sense of direction. Thankfully, she let me take care of the directions and the map so we were bang on time. So early in fact, we were the only ones there as well as the groom and his family. As we are mates with both him and L, we didn’t know what side to sit on. However, he soon set us straight and we were on the bride’s side. It was funny to watch the looks from people who came in and sat on the bride’s side, its that sort of “Do I know the?” look and then they look away. About 20 minutes later, L arrived looking so nervous but happy. She had a tight hold of her flowers and was beaming. Mammy2 was getting all choked up. The service was lovely and very them. The priest was slightly eccentric which made the mass go quicker. Lots of photos taken inside as the weather was shocking and then it was racing back to the hotel to catch the 2nd half of the Ireland England game. The reception kicked off around 5ish, I’m not sure if it was to accomodate the rugby or not but Mammy2 was happy about it. We were seated at the same table as the mate C and his gf, and also another work colleague from my old workplace. Thankfully we avoided small talk, and at one stage when the politics convo got heated between C and the work mate E, I threw in the all time great convo stopper/starter, Dustin and the eurovision. I even managed to mention Miriam, although I feel that silenced the table. We left just before the band started as Mammy2 was getting tired as was I. Home and in bed by 10. Great day though.

I was doing some browsing this morning, researching stories for angrypotato, when I came across this trailer for the movie Water Lilies. It has teenage angst and cruelty written all over it and its getting great reviews. I hope the IFI show it. I did some more reading on it and found this blog post about it.
In fact, it turned into your classic lesbian adolescent film. I say “classic” because although being a teenager can be confusing and hormones are raging left right and center, there are in fact girls who are gay and girls who just like to play…I fail to see why all these films always insist on exploring the topic of female homosexuality.
All of these films, I can count on one hand how many lesbian teenage angst films there have been and I wouldn’t know where to start with straight teenage angst! Seriously, how many films are out there dealing with straight issues. What an un-informed thing to say. Oh, wait though perhaps she has access to the largest private collection of teenage lesbian angst films and we don’t know what we are talking about.
Maybe…..
Goodbye the L Word
Speaking of all things lesbian, I see Showtime has annouced the sixth and final season of the L word. I can’t believe its been going for 5 years? How old do I feel! Whilst we may get annoyed with it, the various meandering storylines, the lack of real lesbians on it etc, the one thing we can’t argue about is the fact that it has
had a huge influence on us. My hopes for the final season are mainly for Bette and Tina to get back together and for Jenny to be run over. Preferably by a New Holland tractor. I think it would add something to the final season.
