Proud Moments…

There have been various times when I’ve gotten a tad gushy over the kid, her getting an award in firth year, her graduation mass when she finally made it through school and the day she volunteerly wore her tie into school. Hey, begggars can’t be choosers right! So yesterday, when I got a txt from her to say she had made mash, I was a tad emotional. Okay, to understand titches, you need to understand one of our obessions. Potatoes. Of any kind. Mash appears to be a fav of myself and the kids. I was throw in at the deep end when Mam left and so had to learn how to cook the perfect mashed potato, with a pouting and grieving teengar as my judge and jury. Lumps were not forgiven. Soapiness was frowned upon. Many dinners ended up in the bin followed by “Its not like Mam’s” So when she asked me to show her how to make, I was surprised. I had thought this was something she’d never want to get the hang of. But I reckon living out with the boyf, if she ever wants mash again, she has to learn how to cook it.

We’ve established that potatoes are by far my fav food and I think its a tie between new potatoes and mash as to what sort I favour. Mash is the ultimate comfort food. Warms you from the inside out. When done correctly. It is also the most difficult to cook. Guaging the right size of potatoes, using the right amount of water. Making sure they are soft yet not mush. The right amount of salt and butter to season and then the all amount mashing to remove all lumps. I asked her how she got on. She replied grand, but there were lumps. There always are when you start out. Apparently the others didn’t want to share but she replied to say “Dammit, I’m making titch mash if I want”. Bless her cottens. I’m not feeling brave enough to sample it just yet. Hopefully some day.

Back in work after 10 days out and its not too bad. The mornings are getting so brighter its great. I had the alarm set for 6.30, I’m not sure who I thought I was fooling with that setting and when it went off it was bright out. If I had been feeling a bit well enough I would have bounded out of bed. Alas cramps for most of the night left me wanting another hour or so’s sleep. Still coming back to work on a Tuesday always shortens the week. Its our anniversary tomorrow, we’re heading to Luigi Malones. We had our first date there all of 9 years ago :)
