Time off

I love having some days off work. Not that I leave the pc much, actually now that I say that I have mixed it up a bit. There’s only so much cleaning one can do. But now that the apartment is looking spotless, including the windows I can start to chill out. The windows are always a daunting task, we’re on the 2nd floor, and
sometimes hanging out the window trying to reach that awkard spot always gets a few heads, who try to talk you out of doing it. Doing what? Cleaning that spot? So if you pick a certain time of the day, you are less likely to get an audience of tourists who always knew the irish were werid. Speaking of the tourists, there
were a few of them around on Monday. Being the day that was in it and all. I have to say, there was a really good feeling about town. It might have had something to do with the ban on alcohol until after 4. There didn’t seem to be any as drunken teenagers around. There were so many people though it was great. I was up at 9 blasting irish music as Mammy2 tried to sleep on. Sheesh, it was Paddies day and she was looking for a lie in. I suppose when you think she was supposed to be working she was allowed a few extra minutes. As it turns out they had paddies day off even though the boss had told her to be in Monday. I could use some choice words for him but I won’t. The good news was she was off, albeit in reluctant party mode.

Once she finally surfaced we headed up town to catch some of the parade. Here are my pics

Entertaining but there’s only so many hats you can look at. Compared to these pics one of the lads from angrypotato took, well impressed. He is a good foot taller then me though, which I know wouldn’t be difficult. Less of the wisecracks. And also no questions about the picture of the guard, I was trying to take a pic of something else. Really.

A few pints and some trad music and it was home by 6. This was a hardcore day for us! The last few days have been wallowing in time off work and avoiding any real work on the pc. I have a new project which I should get started on, I got the designs yesterday so I have said I will get to it. I’ve been working on another personal project of mine as well as kickstarting another new project. It has been on the back boiler for a while. It was Mammy2’s idea. She’s great for the ideas, the follow through takes a while. But it looks like people are interested so I need to get working on some templates. Wordpress and Modx are being stretched at the moment with the various websites. They’re very nifty tools though.

Tomorrow its shopping day for stuff we’ve held off getting due to funds, the clinic really put a dent on the balence. Hopefully once we get approved a loan we should be okay for a few months. I also want to browse for a new manual SLR. When you ask in a camera shop these things from anything that’s not digital they feel the need to point you towards the National Musuem. With my old SLR gone on the blink and the repair guy recommending I upgrade, its time I started browsing so at least when the time comes to buy I’ll know exactly what I want. At the moment I am reading up on f stops and ISO. There’s so much technical jargon out there, I know what I want except I don’t know the fancy terms for it. A guide browse of photography for dummies might sort me out.

Its sister’s night on Good Friday, the kid and myself are going to watch some horror movies and generally give out about everything. She’s not in good form at the mo, the course want her to open a bank acc and she has to take a half day to do that which means getting docked pay. Needless to say she was sweetness and light on the phone to me yesterday. Thankfully I am all chilled out with being off work I took it with a pinch of salt. So whilst we get new hairstyles courtesy of Mister Stephen King on Friday, Mammy2 is heading to a
Leinster Game. Its the first time the nephew is going and he’s all excited. I forsee lots of cute stories in my future. Saturday night we are catching up with the mate S and A who is up from Athlone. The traditional girlie dinner. We’re heading to Fallon and Byrne, I’ve never been and with A complaining about always eating on the northside,we had to book southside this time. She’s become scared of Dublin city since she moved to my hometown. Its a strange role reversal. This is also the mate who’s turning 40 this year and entrusted the party to myself and S. God help her. Only kidding. It should be good fun, if people would ever reply to their emails. There’s a few months to go yet, but I reckon with Pride and baby plans, things are going to get hectic. Its nearly time to training, I haven’t been in ages and I just know I’m going to be partnerless. Which usually means being partnered with the instructor. It can be a good thing and it can be a bad thing. With my body having not trainined for 2 weeks, I can only see it as a bad thing.
