Coding and debugging

Lets start the post with a pic..Because I am in that sort of mood.

Coding, debugging and more coding. That sums up the last 4 days of my life. In between that I had to make some appearences, as in go to work and attend a 30th bday party. But other then that, its been debugging. I missed the table quiz on Thursday night and spent 3 hours trying to get a bit of code working. Spent most of Friday doing the same. Do you think I got anywhere? Here’s the thing: Modx is a fantastically nifty CMS, numourous modules and snippets and is part of an open source framework which has great support. So as to why the snippet that I had working locally was not working on the server was beyond me. After much, and I mean much trawling of the interweb someone suggested an older version of mysql. The database behind Modx. The version I am running locally is 5. The version on the server is 3.23. I don’t know how old it is and don’t want to, all I wanted was my code to work. Of course every time I ran it, the browser went What?! I don’t understand your fancy sql so I will throw a parse error and drive you crazy. Crazy it did drive me. At the 30th I was seeing sql statements instead of people. Yesterday I finally got something working and now it looks like I am ready for signoff on this project. Thank feck. Whilst I have learned a lot about Modx and its various addons, I could have done without the versioning issues. What kind of hosting provider runs on mysql 3.23? Are they only serving html pages? Because I can’t see any fancy functionality with that version?

The 30th turned out to be good fun, although I was a little out of my depth. It was the mate S’s boyf’s 30th and all of his mates and their gfs.WAGS as we like to call them. At one stage, I felt like I was in a comedy sketch as S had gone to gone to get the cake and I was left with 3-4 women talking ear-rings and hand bags. I managed, just about. They are all lovely, but to them I was just S’s mate. And I felt like yer man in Rainman, because everyone that came in, I was introduced to. I can remember some of the names, but not all. There were at least 25 people out and I was introduced to them all as “This is my friend Michelle” and lots of hand shaking. I’m sure the girls didn’t know what to make of me. Finally Mammy2 showed up, after throwing her drunken sister into a taxi. There was a big rugby game on between Munster and Leinster, which Leinster won, so there was much celebrating.

The rest of the weekend was work but thankfully it will be the last weekend I have to work. I hope. Poor Juno is looking forlorn as I pass her by all the time and don’t attempt to play with her at all. That will change this week. Its operation getting to know her and all that makes her tic. Apart from that, no plans for the week, compared to last week its a refreshing change. Catching up with the mate J on Thursday as I haven’t seen her in ages. I told her if the leash from her gf’s bed stretched as far as the outside world, we should catch up :) She was suitably horrified.
