Passion and enthusiasm
I’m starting to realise, only starting to mind you, that some people aren’t as into things as I am. When I get an idea, I get fairly hyped up about it, organising , setting up, making sure things go to plan. For example, my website, angrypotato. A lot of work and I mean a lot of work goes into the running of it, thankfully I have a team, I sometimes have a team, often times it feels like I’m sailing the ship by myself, but yet most of the time, they are a good bunch. Do the work that’s asked of them. I sometimes forget when I am going on a mad one about no-one answering my topics and nothing being done that they volunteer their time and I am grateful to them for that. Because I am anal about a lot of things and seem to sleep with a pc doesn’t mean these people are equally as involved. This observation has raised its head again with a new ezine we’re working on launching.
The idea was there, the name conceived, the url was set up, Word press was installed, we had some really good writers on board and a flurry of activity for a while and then nothing. I don’t know how to work with these creative types at times! They’ll be the death of me. I’m trying not to get worked up and to let things flow. After all , its only a website. But it would be nice to get it off the ground. All of the ladies involved are very articulate and have great opinions, having seen some of their contributions on angrypotato. Again I think real life takes over and as I am only adjusting to it, real life that is, its taking some time. My imaginery therapist said it shouldn’t take too long
Then again I never really trust someone I can’t see and whilst also clearing out my bank account.
With all of this free time that I am trying not to fill up with work and computer languages, books, music and movies are starting to fill up the spaces. Recent movies include Water Lillies which I mentioned already, Cloverfield and Death Sentence. Cloverfield was not what I expected. I guess perhaps it was over hyped. The shaky camera thing was more annoying then anything else. Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon was a total blokes film, a small bit of a plot and lots of shooting. But then again it was Kevin Bacon and he’s always watchable. Music wise, two albums are currently being overplayed on Mork. Paramore’s debut album Riot is very good, its hard to describe, I’m sure the kid would use the term EMO music. I think its edgier then Avril Lavaigne. Which wouldn’t be too hard. The album is very good with a mixture of rock and some slower ones. Check it out. Yesterday I finally got around to listening to Raising Sands, the collaboration between Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. Wow is all I have to say. I didn’t know how it would sound or what sort of sound they would come out with , but its excellent. Blusey with amazing harmonies from the two.
I already was a fan of Alison way before the Oh Brother where are thou soundtrack got her a much bigger fanbase. She’s got a fabulous voice which just washes over you. Easy listening she ain’t. The second last song on the album she sings, Let Your Loss Be your Lesson, with backing vocals from Robert, and she doesn’t change the gender. Great song. I think to give a few of the other songs another listen. Whilst trying to dodge chuggers and people who give out the free papers in the morning is the not the best evironment for giving all my attention over to listening to the album.
Work has been pretty slow, so I’m trying to get Ruby back on the rails. Do you think she wants to get back on them? Me eye does she. She’s off flying no less, whilst I struggle with train tickets. I have decided to un-install and re-install and see how I get on. There is a straightforward click this and it will install all you need for Windows set up, but as I already have a WAMP environment running, there is no need to install mysql again so I need to get Ruby to listen to me. Else I’ll never get to play. Perhaps I should go back to asp.net. Its one of the more mentioned skills that I don’t have when it comes to other jobs. One would like to assume because I already know asp, it wouldn’t be too much of a jump. I’ve learned though assuming things when it comes to computer languages and frameworks is a big mistake. Oh Ruby, don’t take your love to town
Oh I crack me up.
