My head is filled with code at the moment but the good thing is my coding is improving. Actually, maybe its not improving, but because I’m writing to so much of it I think it is. Its been ages since I’ve written so much java. The brain is working overtime. With a work colleague who’s working on my project leaving tomorrow, I am under a small bit of pressure to get through the work. Pressure I think I mostly put on myself but you know what if job worries are the only things one is whinging about then life is pretty alright :) Perhaps I am a little bit happy that I am going on a few days holidays on Friday. Perhaps I realise that when you put things in perspective some people have it a lot harder then others and that maybe your life isn’t all that tragic.

Its been a strange week. Birthdays, losses and overbearing friends of friends. There are times when you need to be close to your family, I mean physically close. These are the times when you curse the fact that you are in another country and all you can offer is long phone calls and make supportive comments along the lines of ‘punches on the shoulder’ and making tea. Because I am big on hugs. This week was one of those weeks where I wish myself and my sister were in the same country. She was going through something tough and whilst talking to her and listening to her is all well and good sometimes you just need to be there. Alas with flights at extortionate prices and my stupid flying phobia and not being able to travel by myself we made do. She is doing a lot better, but then again she is a titch. But still, there is a sadness around what happened. I know that her and her lovely man will get through it. But right now she needs the support of her family and friends and she appears to be getting that. This though on the back of her friend passing away and then the future mother-in-law having another mini stroke had the bearings of a bad week all round for her. They
say things happen in threes. ‘They’ actually say a lot of things, I wonder do ‘They’ have a newsletter to alert us to what they are up to.

The mates 40th was at the weekend. Lets sum it up in a few words. Technical issue with itunes version and we are relying on laptop. Download latest version, load up music sorted. Double booked function room leads to dance floor and bar being installed overnight in the restaurent. Mates, dancing, control freak mate who we could have done without, very happy birthday girl. The night ended in
the residents bar/lobby at 4.30 singing irish songs and outdoing the leftovers from a wedding party who’s only song in their repartee was Dublin in the Rare Ould times. Its not hard to spot a dub when they travel, they are gaurenteed to be

1) Singing Molly Malone/Dublin in the Rare Ould times
2) Wearing a Dubs jersey

You could put money on it. Whilst down in the wilds of my hometime, we caught up with the brother and his gf and watched Westmeath get knocked out of the qualifiers by Tyrone. Before the game I was hoping we get the scoreline respectable. Once we got started it really looked like we could actually win the game. Then 2 men were sent off. I can’t remember the last time one of our men got a red card. It was to be our downfall. With a full quota we knew it was going to be tough but with 13 men it was to be a task too much. So its back to supporting the dubs on behalf of Mammy2. She skips out of work today on her last day. She’s thrilled to be leaving it behind. And she has a few
days break before she starts her new job on the 11th of August. We head for Clare on Friday, down to Ennis for the mate D’s wedding party and then onto Doolin for a few days break from the city. The kid has offered to apartment sit and look after the fish. I read between the lines and got “We need to get away from his mother and also your apartment has shopping we can make use of.” There will be strict orders before we leave as well as a contact number but I reckon she’ll be okay. She’s a bit more mature these days. No phone, no computer, just myself and the wife enjoying the countryside. We’ve also heard that Doolin is the capital of trad music. Thigh schlapping here we come :)
