Madrid in 2 Days

I can’t wait. Not least because of the weather here. I arose this morning, after finally crawling out from under my PMT EMO mood to throw back the curtains in dramactic fashion to be greeted with dark skies, the pitter pain of rain and the sight of people struggling up the quays in awful weather. Just the right time to be heading away. Thankfully the weather appears to have abated over there. The idea of 200Km winds and weather warnings don’t sit well with those who are afraid of flying. It appears all has settled down for the moment and there is talk of 15 degress. I say talk, because its the BBC’s website and that could all change. I’ve done all my research on restaurents and on the gay area. I have put together a small itinery but sure as long as we are away and together it will be a fab holiday.

As a result of Mammy2 being out of the country for her actual birthday, we caught up with most of the mates at the weekend for drinkies. Its the first time in ages when we were out on the Friday night AND the Saturday night. I considered it a hardcore weekend even it was with the rentals on the Friday. We paid a return visit to Fallon and Byrne after not being bowled over by them the first time. We heard it had changed managers so we were willing to give it a go. I have to say a great improvement in food. It was piping hot. The last time we had eaten there the food had to be sent back and I don’t send food back so that will give you an idea of what we were dealing with. This time however top marks all around, from service to food and their potato gratin, nyoms :) Four contented customers.

I was very excited when I saw this headline in the times this morning.
Civil Partnership Bill to go before Dáil in new session
You’d think at this stage I would be wary of any political meanderings, espeically when you consider there are a lot more bills going before the Dail and they have already put this on the long finger. Another thing that struck me was this.

The programme also contains two Bills dealing with the current economic crisis.

You can only imagine how the likes of some of the rags/newspapers deal with this. “Giving Gays rights will increase your taxes” and so on. Next thing you know, us having a job will be taking jobs of good hetrosexuals. You may think I’m exagerating but you only have to cast you eyes over some of the red tops or our own ‘beloved’ paper of the people, the Herald to imagine their take on it. I remain optimisitic but I don’t think this is the year for it. I don’t think Ireland is ready for it and sure they can
always plead the CEC for everything. For those of you not in the know and perhaps not sad enough to be learning acronyms about the recession, its Current Economic Climate. If you already knew that and are rolling your eyes at me because you used it in every second conversation you have, then I suggest you start rolling your eyes at yourself.
:P

I can’t think straight finally arrived and I’ve already started reading it. The sister was kind enough to use her amazom.com account to order it for me. If you’re not a reader of,and I hate using the word, lesbian fiction then you won’t understand the excitment when a book from such a writer as Shamim Sarif comes out. Having read The World Unseen and loving it, its rare for a book with lesbian characters to be so enjoyable. So descriptive, unputdownable, if its a word. With the notable exception of the fabulous
Sarah Waters, its like a famine times out there. Unless of course you are into those books that start:

Twenty years ago, Peg Ryan was a drunken, womanizing New York attorney who made a terrible mistake. Now 17 years sober, Peg thought she had put the past behind her. But as she is settling in a new position in Chicago, her past comes back to haunt her just as she falls in love with Allison, a real estate broker.

or

Medivac helicopter pilot Jett McNally’s heart belongs to an Army officer she left behind in Afghanistan, and good-time anesthesiologist Tristan Holmes is no substitute, except possibly in bed.

Perhaps they are your sort of stories, not for me! The funny part is the poor sister keeps getting recommendations from Amazon of lesbian books she might be interested it.

:D
