Computers will be the death of me.
You can put that on my headstone. Actually even bettter and geekier put a progress bar on my headstone. One that never quite gets to the end. The story of my life at the moment. Now I know the PC at home has been worked into the ground, between conversions and downloading and photoshop and large image files and being on 24/7 but excuse me for not having any sympathy when one realises that it is exactly that it has been designed for. That’s why it has RAM, that’s why it has a fancy processor. Well not so fancy now. Its about 2/3 years old which in PC terms is a dinosaur. So of late, it picked up a small bit of malware 1,238 infections if we want to be exact about it. I posted about this issue a while ago. Since then it is as if Windows Updates have done bonkers and constantly sit in the system tray mocking me with the lack of percentage. How can someone sit at 0% all day.
How? It makes no sense. Then came the BSOD. That scared me. Slightly. BDOS are scary. I come into work expecting the work pc to not care a jot about windows updates but alas not. It has spent the last 2 days with a small yellow badge flashing 0% at me and then asking for a reboot? Why reboot, you’ve done nothing. Nothing that I can see at any rate. I’ve been drooling over a new tower on ebay. Dual-core. 2GB RAM and the clinicher as if the other stuff wasn’t fab, it comes with XP. I shall resist Vista for as long as I can!
Last night was good fun with the kid. Our horrors though were more horrific in acting and plotlines then actual story. The Univited, which I mentioned in a previous post, is supposedly based on A Tale of 2 Sisters. The word based is used very loosely here. Emphasis on the word very. Where as A Tale of 2 sisters is nuanced and subtle and you need to watch it a few times before you even begin to figure out what’s going on, the American ‘remake’ takes the plot and proceeds to bludgeon you over the head with it until you fall unconscious. Appalling. One or 2 scenes are lifted directly from the Korean movie and that’s about it. No build up, no tense scenes. Tense scenes where you are wondering what you are doing watching this drivel. We moved onto the Grudge 3. The initial Grudge movie staring Buffy , sorry Sarah Michelle Gellar was very good. It was another remake of the Japanese film Ju-on: The Grudge. Much like the Ring it stuck true to the original movie and was a good scarefest. A blue boy and a freaky woman with a dodgy neck ailment made for a good tense with the odd throw popcorn in the air moments.
The Grudge 2 stuck with a tried and tested formula, lost some of the surprise element but overall a good movie. The Grudge 3 I wouldn’t use to prop open the toilet door. Absolute rubbish. Had we rented it out I would have said the video people saw us coming and wheeled out their B movie section. Not a single scary moment. That was 3 hours of my life I can’t get back but still hanging with the kid was good fun. She has her portfolio interview today for Bray so here’s hoping she gets accepted. Step 1 down.
