Walking on sunshine

This walking to work marlarky isn’t as bad as I had envisioned. Although it does take me a good 45/50 mins to get in when you include changing and freshening up. But still I do feel a bit chipper when I’ve walked and the sun is shining. Only in Ireland can you get drenched one day and be roasting the next, of course only in Ireland and our ‘martime’ climate do you have to chose between raincoats or no
raincoats. In April. Nearly May which in my mind equals sunshine. Not so according to the black clouds looming menacingly over younder. I expect the music O Fortuna to start playing any minute. Its such a brilliant piece of music though and reminds of me of menacing small children who’s plot to take over the world cannot be stopped. Then again I have a fairly vivid imagination :)

Finally got rid of the grumps which I think I had as a result of a hectic weekend, not much sleep and some PMT thrown into the mix. There was

- Pint with workmates on the Friday
- Up early on Sat for helping mate J and her gf move into their fab lovely new apartment at HSQ. They look as gorge as they are described.
- Back home, make sure Mammy2 is okay, she was very unwell, tuck her into bed, head training.
- Head to Trim for S’s 30th bday bash. Stay with mate R and her husband so catch up with them. Pub crawling in a small town is fun, especially when you end up asking unsuspecting barmen to judge who has the longest toe. I won’t go into the details.

Mad weekend so yesterday when I got soaked on the way home, I was in no mood for training. Even though I had got a new training top and socks. There just wasn’t motivation enough. This evening the kid is supposed to be calling over. I won’t get my hopes up although she does have her portfolio
interview tomorrow so perhaps it will happen. I really want to see The Univited, its an american remake of Tale of 2 sisters which I still rate as one of THE scariest movies ever made. Even thinking about it gives me a new hair style.

Speaking of movies, we watched Girlfight again for the first time in years. Its a great film with Michelle Rodriguez and her patented frown/pout oustanding in the role. I’m still usure about the love story side of it and whether its needed or not. I thought the story of her wanting to fight and dealing with her issues through training was strong enough but perhaps it was to make to show her soft side underneath that hard exterior. With scenes like her getting her hair braided by her best mateshowing her more vunerable side contrast sharply with her working the speedbag and punchbag. I don’t know, it just felt out of place. Still its one of the best movies out there about female boxing. I am hoping to get a copy of Shadow Boxers which features Lucia Rijker. I feel quite the ignorant fan with having not heard of Lucia before. With a tagline like this from wban.org,

Four time World Champion Kickboxer Lucia Rijker has been referred to as “The Most Dangerous Woman in the World,” “Queen of Lightning” and “Lady Ali.

I really should have heard of her. Then again I am not really into the pro boxing which is the sport she features most in as well as some kickboxing comps.

Speaking of boxing, I finally got my hands on the soundtrack to Rocky. Now there is no stopping me training :)
