What a difference a week makes..
Well its not exactly how the song goes and its not exactly a week but I thought it summed up perfectly how to describe the 2 women in my life at the moment. This time last week Mammy2 was getting sick in the work car park unable to go into the building and the kid was txting me from behind a locked toilet door about her panic attack and avoiding the teacher. Last night Mammy2 picked the kid up from college on her way home from work and its so amazing to see the 2 of them back on their feet and full of confidence to face the world. Both thankfully have good support frameworks in place. Once the kid spoke to the tutor about her situation, she was very understanding and they got her in touch with a counseller who’s hopefully going to help. Mammy2’s workplace have been amazingly understanding. Easy know its an american company. Irish companies do not understand depression. At all. Its a case of head down and get on with it. Thankfully with Mammy2’s place this is not the case. They have been extremely supportive.
Its one less thing to worry about. The kid stayed over last night, we were supposed to be having sisters night but she got distracted with being online and the world of youtube so we conversed, me mostly talking to her back. She’s doing really well in college. She got al 20 of her assignments done and shegot a gold star for one of her compositions. But the best thing of all for us is she’s made some friends. Sorry, in her works ‘her crew’. There’s about 5-6 heads
which she hangs around with and that will help her so much.
It was strange getting up this morning and not making lunch. It was also strange not having to drag her from bed and persuade her to go to school. She was up and had stolen the bathroom to spend all her time getting made up. Some things don’t change. But compared to the grunting teenager that used to greet me this one was making her breakfast and chatting away. I emailed Mammy2 to see if she dropped her off okay to college and she did but apparently she couldn’t drop her at the college cause according to Mammy2
“I had to drop her outside so no one would see me hug her. “Gay” apparently.”
