Its Christmas!
Offically, well in the titch household at any rate. I managed to rein in my need for putting up the tree early as the kid was staying over on the Tuesday and as is traditional in ours she wanted to help. I wasn’t feeling overly festive until I arrived into work on Monday and we have all our trees up. A tree on every floor and the trees are lovely! Of course what is also traditional with putting the tree up is that Mammy2 has to lovely task of untangling the lights and checking if they were working. I do have pics which I took to emphasis the task she faced and how she managed to untangle them with the help of the kid who had her own method. When they were finally untangled, of course only one set worked. The kid was sitting with over a hundred lights wrapped around
her arm and a pout. As the tree was looking a tad sparse, she kindly gave us back the coloured lights we had originally given her because we thought we had enought. Lights in place, silly santa hats on and the Darkness belting out Don’t let the Bells Ring. That and Shakin Steven’s Merry Christmas Everyone are her favs. I decided to overdo the silly santa hat by adding antlers to the mix. Of course you do forget you’re wearing them so when I went to the kitchen, a couple of poor fridge magnets which were stuck to the top of the cooker (its best you don’t ask) went diving for cover but the David Beckham bottle opener took one for the team but being not only thrown to the floor in a dramatic fashion but losing his head as well. Warning. When wearing antlers in a small kitchenette overflowing with magnets, take care. Just in case that scenario arrives for you.
This evening we are hoping to get the last of the christmas shopping done. Mammy2 has been unwell for the last few days. The time of year coupled with darkness is always tough on people who have depression. She’s fighting it though. Thank god her work place are supportive and understanding, it helps a lot. The plan is to knock off work early, have already alerted the bosses and head into the madness that is town. I have my list, my christmas card list and my list of other things I need to do as well. Like buy tags and nice wrapping paper. All of the stuff that adds to the whole expierence.
Still no sign of the teeniest titch. The baby was due yesterday but the sister K txted to say the mid-wife said it could be another week. Mammy2 said she reckons the baby is waiting for us to arrive with our extensive medical knowledge we learned from Doctor Quinn medicine woman. We arrive, we boil water, we rip sheets and we gaze lovingly in on the wounded soliders. Not that my sister has a ward for wounded soliders, the last bit might have been a slight exageration. Its very exciting!
We watched Julie and Julia the other night. Meryl Streep was outstanding as always and Amy Adams did her best to make us care about Julie. Really she did. But Julie came across as self-obessed and this feeling was further compounded by the latest news from the blogsphere by the news that she’s written another book about having an affair and carving up things. Not sure if the two are related
But the one thing that did come across, and yes I know it was Nora Eprhon so everything has rose tinted glasses, was
the husband’s supportiveness with putting up with her I need to do this and what about my readers and so on madness. I digress. I was impressed with her ability to write everyday. Granted she had something worthwhile to write about, ie a recipe she was trying out. If I were to blog every day, it would start with breakfast and end with an early night. Unless I started to reveal what goes on in my head which means I might scare people. But its worth a try. Saying I shall update daily or nearly daily and sticking to it.
I do like deadlines and targets. We shall see.
