10. We didn’t invent disco music so stop blaming us.
9. We’re not sure about Ricky Martin either.
8. We also didn’t invent the colour black, but we are in complete agreement that you look better in it.
7. We are secretly glad Anne Heche is back on your team. She scares us.
6. Our so-called “gaydar” does not get us more cable stations or better reception.
5. We think your mini-vans are sooo cute!
4. David Crosby was not Melissa Etheridge’s only choice.
3. If he’s using two or more hair products at any one time - yes, he is.
2. If she’s won Wimbledon 16 times, she is too.
And, the number one thing that heterosexuals need to know about gay people is…
1. Relax, we don’t want you!

Its a wordpress tagline but I like to think its true. Lately I have been up to my neck in learning new stuff and whilst its been fascinating and interesting to excercise the brain as much as the body, its also exhausting. I have had three major projects running at the same time and dealing with three very different clients is an excercise in itsself. Thankfully I am nearing the end of 2 of the projects. One I was recommended by someone and I don’t know about you but when someone recommends me to someone else I want to prove that person right on their recommendations. Hence the workload and the stress levels but things are calming down now. I have learned loads about my CMS modx, its very useful and I haven’t been stretching it at all functionality wise, which I have had the chance to do now with the latest website. Between calendars and access levels I am dreaming in code. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but its hard to switch off and my dreams are filled with curly brackets and if loops.
The kid turns 21 on Saturday. For the first time in a fair few years there are no pride celebrations. Her bday has taken second place over the last few years to Pride and now its her turn to be the centre of attention. Its going to be a hardcode celebration Dinner with the mates and family on Friday night and home to the apartment for Pictionary and then lunch with the in-laws on the Saturday. The sister K and Mr K and the little un are home, they’ve been back here for a week and its been great having them around. The little niece has changed loads in the last couple of months as babies tend to do. She’s just over 6 months now. I remember when the kid was 6 months :O Now I really feel old.
Getting back into training after NY, which was amazing. The city is amazing and I’d like to go back again with just Mammy2 and not the family. It wasn’t bad visiting with the in-laws, it just got a bit stressful at times with the sister-in-law who is very organised. I know I am organised, but she takes it to championship level. Speaking of head wrecking family members my brother seems to be batting a decent average of pissing everyone off lately. As I said to the sister K, someone I really ask how we share DNA. He posted a comment on Facebook last week using the N word to describe something to do with those horns in South Africa. I was incensed but I knew there was no point in saying anything to him, he’ll play the victim card all the time. The sister K though took him on about it and was txting him back and forth. He didn’t seem to think there was any issue with it, it was them and I quote ‘having the craic’ and wait for this, ‘i have coloured friends’. Lordy, I resisted the urge to say the teletubbies don’t count as friends. He finished by saying there are worse things in the world like killing people and taking drugs. He’d make a great member for a debating team. Like I said I couldn’t deal with him. Thankfully the sister K is well able for him. Hopefully now he’ll go back to only ringing to tell me about fires down home. Because I need to be kept updated about any fire outbreak. Life in the country folks, as I said to K before , you couldn’t make up this crap.
Happy Pride folks!

Last week the kid rings us, all afluster about her results. She had heard from a classmate that the Dun Laoghaire results were out for her courses. I checked the post and nada. I then checked the interweb which is handy for these kinds of things and sure enough boards.ie had a thread on it which said the results had been emailed to the students. More phone calls and then more pacing as she wasn’t online. We did our best John Cleese impersonation as we waited for her to call back. Finally the phone rang, I can’t remember exact figures but 300 and something for one course, 400 and something for another course and 510 for the fine art course. She cruisedit. Of course once we had stopped dancing around the living room like ejjits, she asked us to double check for her about offers. You have to add up your portfolio points, the points from your PLC course and your Leaving Cert points. The offers from the colleges won’t be out until Sept but its such a positive start. We couldn’t believe it. I don’t think she could either.
The bro’s 30th bday bash wasn’t as bad as we had thought, only because we had envisioned it being horrendous. Anything involving the extended family adds years to us.But we got through it alright. The aunties were polite and chatted to us. Even the auntie who’s convinced if she sits near us she’ll catch lesbianism. Apparently she was trying to get Mammy2 to go some catholic meeting. God help her. It was a suprise party and I do think they managed to pull it off judging from the look on the brother’s face when he
arrived in. The kid had said she wasn’t going to mention anything about the portfolio results but there was no way I was going to get it escape their notice. Of course when I told them, they were going on about us all being brain boxes. The face on the kid was priceless, she mouthed to me about them not having a clue what a portfolio course was, because really, its more to do with pratical then studying. But at least they reacted positvely.
Back to Dublin for Mam’s annivesary, we just decided on drinks and some food, nothing major. The kid had a hankering for a baked potato followed by cocktails. It was so much more relaxing then a stupid mass with a priest who never knew Mam. Today is my last day in work for a week as we are heading to New York tomorrow. I am nervous and excited and nervous. Seven hours of a flight on a big plane. The type that crashes a lot in movies. I should really stop watching movies involving planes. Like Final Destination. Once we get there thought, hopefully in one piece, I’m nervous about the city. Again perhaps I should stop watching SVU. Its going to be fun. We have 5 days there and we fly back on Sunday evening. Lots of time to take in the sights. Everyone is recommending different things to us, don’t think we’ll get to do them all but we shall give it our best shot! We might even get to visit Gleason’s Gym, one of the oldest boxing gyms in New York! Tres exciting! Mammy2 went to the doc to get some pills to knock me out just in case I get the heebie jeebies.
Speaking of america, from TYWKIDBI, this made me laugh :

The internet has the funniest things..Whilst I abhor icanhascheeseburger with the passion of a thousand burning fires, some cat related stuff is very cute…see this vid made me laugh and feel sorry for the poor mite at the same time..
and well this pic is just classic.
I’ll bet you are there thinking, that one has the life of Reilly, all day surfing for funny pics and browsing youtube for gems, alas not! First thing in the morning I browse the sites to get some stuff to post on the spud and occasionaly stumble upon funnies which I like to share
So at the moment I am recovering from a head cold Mammy2 kindly decided to share with me. This cold is not being aided by the current weather sitation. Yesterday to the sounds of O Fortuna I noticed the dark clouds gathering and promptly ignored them thinking, rather niavely I now realise, that its May and surely in May one can expect some sort of warm temperatures and no downpours. Well I was wrong. May everywhere else might indicate just that, but here in the lovely Emerald Isle it means cats and dogs and cold temperatures and no summer wardrobe at all. This was what I walked through.
Cats, dogs and meerkats were being chucked from the sky. Thankfully the kid had rescheduled sister’s night as she was dying of a cold so as soon as I was in the door, it was hot shower and into warm clothes and no moving out of doors. Spent the evening playing around with a wordpress database, am helping out someone who isn’t really techy and asked for assistence. I love problem solving when its clear what the problem is but in this case it could be any number of things including plugin upgrades or WP upgrades. As a result of lots of research, I found this nifty diagram of the schema of the Wordpress database. I showed it to Mammy2 and asked her what she thought of the sexy schema. She said she didn’t think the word sexy was applicable. Long story short, the lady I am helping out has decided to do a fresh install on her new dededicated server space and get the site back up and running and then export the tables she needs to the new setup. All sounds very doable and should keep the brain active for a while.
This day week we’ll be in NY. Our flight is at 12.30, Mammy2 has gotten in touch with our GP for a little ’something’ to help with my flying fear. She says little something, I hear horse tranquilizers. I saw a few episodes of the A-Team, so I am fully aware of people take care of people who are afraid of flying. I will be keeping a close eye on her if she offers to make me tea or buy me a pint. Next you know I’ll arrive safe and sound and there won’t be any panic. But that’s a week away, in the meantime the brother’s 30th and the mam’s anniversary looms ahead this weekend. The brother’s 30th is going to be very like the engagement party we went to previously so I won’t need to go into details. These country dos are not my thing but he is the bro and he is only 30 once. Myself, Mammy2 and the kid travel down on the Fri and back on the Sat. Mam’s anniversary is on the Sat, so far we have no plans, its the first year we don’t have to endure that stupid mass with the relatives and where we don’t need a safe word to escape some of the relatives. Its such a relief. Now we can mark the occasion as we see fit. Whether it be cooking a big mashed potato dinner and having a few drinks with good mates or hogging the jukebox in some random pub and playing Mam’s songs. Much better then listening to some guy we don’t know talk about how we are all going to hell. Right Fr.
