Tonight’s my first class back since my knee went on the blink. Physio lady said inflamed tendon and recommended rest. No running, no jumping, no kicking…Nothing. Which was great fun, I make a good patient I had my first light run yesterday and leg was fine and also went to the swimming pool as well for some more lessons in the art of staying afloat. Not sure if I’ll get the hang of it
any time soon but I can perserve. Mammy2 headed off to the States this morning with work. She’s there until Thursday evening when she flies back to Dublin to catch up with me and we head to Dusselddorf for our hols over with the sister. I can’t wait for holidays. Not alone is it downtime from work but we get to spend some time with the little niece, what’s not to love!

This week will crawl I just know it. Its the first time in ages I think that we’re spending any time apart for this long. I think the last time was when she had to go to Canada with work and that was for 4 days. It will be good for us I know but I’ll miss her loads. On the plus side I get to spend time re-arranging the room. With the kid moving back in with us, we had been using her wardrobe for storage and now this is all back in our room and going into the wardrobe requires you taking out life insurence for your arms. Trying to part the clothes takes a weeks worth of training. Tonight before class I am going to dive in and get it sorted. I told Mammy2 to prepare for the place to completly rearranged. I won’t be meeting up with her until Sat morning at the airport so that’s 5 whole days and nights of tidying and sorting. I have high plans for sorting out all my photos as well but then again I always do this. Think there are more hours in the week then there are! For the moment I’m going to focus on getting back into training and fixing up the
bedroom.

Well, the kid did it! She got an offer for art college. Visual Communications, a 4 year degree course in Dun Laoghaire. Let the fun commence! We moved most of her stuff back in yesterday and my word does the girl hoard stuff. I thought I was bad. Mammy2 has always been amazed at our ability to find space for stuff. When we brought all the bags and boxes back into her old room, we stood and looked at everything and decided there was no way she was going to fit everything into the room and still keep it tidy. But if there’s one thing us titches are its resourful with space. Mammy2 thinks everyone should live in a mobile home for a few years and it’ll teach you about saving space. I guess it does! So begins a new journey with the kid only this time she’s an adult so to speak. We’ve worked out what days the boyf can stay over and hammer out rules and regulations. Moreso to keep me sane as there’s a certain way things need to run in the apartment before all hell breaks loose! Fingers crossed we all survive the next 4 years. In typical fashion of everything happening whilst we are away on hols, her first day is on the Monday we’re in Holland. We will of course ring her but I was hoping for it to be the previous week so I could have dinner ready for her. I hope she gets on okay and makes a friend. It will make all the difference!

We went out for dinner on the Wed to mark 10 years of wedded bliss. The plan had been to have our civil partnership on the day but the govenment are a bit slow in catching up so it won’t be until next year. Damn government, always trying to rain on our parade! We decided to try out Saba, its a thai restuarent everyone has been raving about and its been somewhere we’ve been meaning to try for ages. Mammy2 loved it, I thought it was okay. See I set my standard by Koh, another thai restuarent which we always frequent, so perhaps it was just I didn’t like the change. Such a creature of habit I am.

With the ole knee flaring up again during last week, I couldn’t train as much as I wanted to as I was grading on the Sat. I think I hyper-extended it about a month ago and even though I have iced it and treated it with heat, its still a bit sore when I do a double class or run more then 2km so its off to physio I go tomorrow. They really are going to think I am a crock! But it didn’t stop me getting my orange belt. Funnily enough after all my stress about double kicks in the air, it was the double kicks on the pads and the hoof kick that I had to redo. Still it was worth it, I really feel like I’ve achieved something. We stayed to watch some of the purple belts do their thing, that’s our next belt and both myself and my training partner S looked at one another in shock. One of the senseis reckon it should take us 2 months and we should go for it. I love their optimism. The purple belt has every kick on it, except its not just spinning, its jumping and spinning and kicking. When done well it looks pretty impressive. I think for the moment I’ll enjoy

Next week is going to be one of those weeks, you know the sort, nothing happens in your life for the best part of a year and them wham, not the band, but more like someone hitting Batman type Wham and its a case of how many more things can we squeeze in there. Next Monday the FETAC offers go out. For those of you not in the know, its when, hopefully, the kid gets an offer. She’s nearly settled in with us now. The one problem being she’s missing the boyf a lot. We’ve come to a compromise whereby he stays over from Wed to Sat. In his defence, he’s so quiet and hangs in the room so much you’d hardly know he was there. That said I couldn’t live with them both. I value my space too much and while its a 2 bedroomed apartment, I think 4 people in it is a push. She’s starting looking around at bedsits and studios. The only problem being anyone who rents are notoriously anti social welfare. Because we all know they are a bunch of lazy mo-fos who couldn’t be arsed finding a job . Believe it or not, some people think that. I agree that there are people out there who take advantage of the system in this country, but they are not all like that. I’ll climb off my soap box now. I’ve advised her to wait until she sees what the story is with college as then she’d qualify for student accomodation. With the help of the college fund obviously. The rent in Dublin can be very high. Milestone 1: We hope a college offer

Milestone 2: 10 years married on Wed. We had hoped to mark this by availing of the Civil Partnership act that was passed a month ago. Alas, with more paper work and red tape, its looking more like next year before it comes into affect. In the meantime, there’s a ceremony to be planned and a celebration of the last 10 years of happyily married life. We’ve had our ups and downs but we’re still here and she still seems to think I am the woman for her. And she knows all about my obession with meerkats, tractors, big shouldered men and potatoes. What can I say? I’m a lucky woman

Not such a milestone but because its all I’ve been thinking about and working towards for the last few months, my hopefully orange belt. I don’t think I’ve trained this hard since I’ve taken up martial arts. Here’s hoping its worthwhile. My knee has started to act up now as well, I am such a crock. I think I hyper extended it a week or more ago and its still being a bit of an EMO knee. Lots of wrapping on it when I train seems to keep it happy, if it lasts until Sat week, it can do whatever it wants then as I’ll be resting it a good bit. In the meantime, I need it to act like a knee and support me.

On Friday for the weekend we head here :
Killary Harbour. One cannot overstate the natural beauty of this place. Its absolutely breath-taking. Our mate S’s parents own a cottage on the harbour, its an old famine style cottage, just about has electricity. No telly, no radio and on interweb :O I can’t wait! Its myself, Mammy2 , S and our other mate A. Cooking dinner, hanging out and relaxing. I love Killary! It will be Juno’s first trip down the west, I hope to share a few pics next week.

Brother is attending National Boob Grab Day. Really? Is this any way to start the day. I nearly spat my coffee all over the keyboard. Again I ask, how do I share DNA with him? HOW! Then again maybe its Facebook’s fault for creating such an event.
We’re currently playing the waiting game at Chez Titch at the moment. The first round of offers from CAO are being sent out over the next few days so hopefully the kid gets an offer. I can’t see how she won’t with her portfolio scores but they did say it didn’t gaurentee a place. I’m trying not to bite other people’s nails but its so hard. Also trying to nonchantly ask the kid if she’s gotten any emails. Herself and the boyf have been staying with us the last few days to get a break from his mam. It wasn’t as bad as I had thought. I am so used to it being the 2 of us, I had thought 4 of us in the apartment might kill each other but it was grand, they hung in the room whilst we chilled in the living room and sure our bedtime is around 10 so they can stay up all hours watching wrestling. Well, he watches wrestling and she works on her drawings. She is going to get the stencil done of her tattoo today I think. She has been humming and hawing over it for I don’t know how long. Now she’s worried because she doesn’t have doubts about it?! Mad yoke.

Tomorrow we are heading uptown to check out some dresses for my wedding/civil partnership next year. I know the sort of dress I want so hopefully we can find it without having to resort to any bridal shops. Can you imagine me in a bridal shop? With them fussing around you like a bunch of clocking hens whilst making me look like a merginue? I don’t think its really me. The kid
has said she’ll help with the shopping. If she gets her tattoo I doubt she’ll be much help, I don’t think she realises she might be a bit sore after getting it done. For someone who wants to be a tattoo artist, she can be niave about some things. Considering how she reacts when I barely kick her in class during pad work, I can only imagine how she’ll feel after she gets it done. I will be going along
to observer and possibly to allow her to crush my arm if she feels in any pain. Supportive big sis that I am. I am also interested in seeing how its done so if I ever get around to getting mine I will at least know what’s involved.

She’s very funny in class, she came to 2 classes with me this week, our usual one on the Tues and she decided to try out my Wed class. Apart from constantly being protective of her right hand, I think she’s enjoying it. Her kicks are pretty good already and she seems to be naturally flexible the wench! Ah, youth how I miss thee…
